Corn Crunchers
1 cup pellets after crushing in blender
1 cup stone ground corn meal
2 Tbs baking powder
mix together
5 oz. Can evaporated milk, plus water to make 1 cup
1 cup cooked cracked corn
1/3 cup sunflower meets (unsalted)
1/3 cup chopped raisins
2 Tbs. Melted soy-based margarine
1 egg
Gradually add milk to pellet mix, while blending with hand mixer. Add egg; blend with mixer. Add margarine and mix. Fold in raisins and sunflower meats. Mixture will be very dry. Spoon into muffin cups so there are lumps of mix -- do not pack down, fill to top. Bake at 400 deg. F. for 25 min. Cool and freeze.
Breeder Bread
2 cups high protein breeder pellets
½ c. raw greenbeans
¼ c fortified wheat germ oil
1 small apple
1/8 c dicalcium phosphate (I crush cuttle bone)
½ c. fresh cranberry sauce *
½ c. oat groats
1 c. corn
2 cups Petamine
6 eggs
6 Tbs baking powder
½ c raw sweet potatoes
Process all ingredients except Petamine and baking powder.
Poor into bowl, add Petamine and baking powder and mix with electric mixer.
Spread into greased 9 x 13 in. cake pan and bake at 325 deg. F for 45 min.
*Cranberry sauce
1 pkg. Fresh cranberries
½ cup honey
Wash cranberries, cover with water, add honey. Bring to a boil and boil for 10 minutes. Let cool until jelled. Freeze in ice cube trays, when frozen place cubes in freezer storage bag. Makes a good snack served frozen too.
Toasted Egg Biscuits
½ cup white flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 c. packed Quaker multi-grain hot cereal mix (after grinding)
2 cups packed stone ground whole grain cornmeal (after grinding)
¼ tsp salt
¼ cup soft margarine
½ c honey
8 egg yolks
1 whole egg
½ tsp anise extract
Grind cereal in blender until almost the texture of flour. Grind cornmeal the same way. Measure after grinding. Mix the dry ingredients together with electric beaters. Cream margarine and honey. Add egg yolk and egg, one at a time, and mix well. Add anise and mix well. Add dry ingredients to egg mixture and beat well. Shape into 2 loaves about 10 x 3 inches and place on a greased cookie sheet. Bake in a 350 deg. Oven for 25 min. or until top is golden brown. Remove from oven and immediately slice in 1 inch slices with a bread knife. Trun slices on their side and brown under broiler. Turn again and brown other side. Watch carefully or they will burn.
Egg Mix
10 – 12 hardboiled eggs, chopped (include the shell)
2 cups Gerber baby cereal
minerals and vitamins (optional)
GREAT FOR BIRDS FEEDING BABIES
Mama Bird Mix
Hard boiled egg (including shell)
Raw & cooked Brussels sprouts
Boiled green peas (or frozen)
Cranberry
Grapes
Apple
Raw Carrot
Pear
Petamine
Raw sweet potato
Place all ingredients in food processor, coffee grinder or blender and process according to size birds you are feeding. Remove from cages after 5 hours to avoid bird becoming sick from spoiled food.
Soft Food Recipe
Cook the following in 6 cups of water in covered pan for 20 min.
½ c. split green peas
½ cup brown lentils
½ cup red lentils
½ cup barley
½ cup long grain brown rice
9 oz package shoepeg white corn
Drain; add enough couscous to soak up moisture (1/2 to ¾ cup).
Let mixture sit for 10 minutes. Freeze in ice cube trays.
When frozen place cubes in freezer bags for serving portions.
