About Riverbank Aviary - Mission Statement Minimize
We are a small family-owned in home aviary. We breed Blue and Gold Macaws, Yellow Collared Macaws,  Military Macaws, Severe Macaws, Jenday Conures, Rosy Bourke Grass Parakeets and many mutations of cockatiels.

Our babies are all hand fed by syringe, starting at two to three weeks old. Our babies are raised in a family home setting that includes a teenager and a dog. The birds rule the roost so to speak. When the babies reach the age of wanting to explore and walk around they receive play ground time where we teach them to climb, play with wiffle golf balls, and many other toys from the birdie toy box. All of our babies are given quality one on one time with each human family member, this teaches them to be accepting of older children, men and women. This socialization program also prevents the babies from bonding to any individual caretaker; we reserve that bonding for the baby's new owners.

We screen any prospective new parents for our babies before we agree to send the baby off to it's new home. We put a lot of time, energy and love into each individual baby to insure it's emotional as well as physical health.

Our breeding facility is closed to everyone except the owners of Riverbank Aviary; this is to protect the parents and to give them a setting as close to their natural environment as possible. The temperature and humidity levels are closely monitored.  They are fed a balanced diet to ensure good health and beautiful coloring. They receive dry pellet food every day, as well as seed, fresh fruits, fresh vegetables and a variety of grains.

It is our goal to provide a special companion for people to enjoy and love, that will last a lifetime. We strongly recommend that any one who wishes to have a companion bird, take their time making their decision, and research the different varieties, their care requirements, and their life spans, as many do live very long lives if taken care of properly.

Riverbank Aviary accepts payment in the forms of  postal money order, cash or through PayPal (PayPal accepts most credit cards).  Deposits are accepted on babies not yet weaned.   We also offer 60-day payment plans available on some birds.

We live in Raleigh, North Carolina. We are members of the Raleigh-Durham Caged Bird Society, National Cockatiel Association, American Federation of Aviculture and the SPBE. The RDCBS is comprised of over 100 local families and individuals including bird owners, breeders, pet store owners, and some of the nation's finest avian veterinarians.
